ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The New Mexico State women's basketball team exchanged the lead with Michigan multiple times in the second half but the Wolverines finished the game on a 14-2 run over the final 3:50 of the game to win 68-54 at Crisler Arena on Monday night.
The Aggies closed to within 54-52 at the 3:48 mark after an 8-0 run sparked by junior forward Tabytha Wampler and senior guard Jasmine Lowe, but the home squad posted four quick points to spark the game's final rally and secure the win.
Four Aggies finished in double digits, led by junior forward Wampler's 14 points. Lowe scored 12, while Danisha Corbett and Kaitlyn Soto added 10 apiece.
Senior point guard Madison Spence did not dress for the Aggies Sunday but did attend the game as she recovers from a concussion suffered Nov. 22 against Western New Mexico. Head Coach Darin Spence hopes to get Madison back into full practices this week prior to the next game at Arizona on Sunday, Dec. 19.
"Our team is scrappy," Spence said. "Our team is competitive, and we're not going to go anywhere and just lay down for people to walk over. But I think some of the turnovers we committed tonight gave them momentum and quick scoring opportunities."
New Mexico State falls to 6-4 on the season, while Michigan improves to 6-4.
