DETROIT -- On Wednesday, Patrick Eaves scored his first career hat trick.
On Friday, he rested. Not because he wanted to, of course.
"He got an upper body injury. He raised his arms so many times he hurt himself," coach Mike Babcock quipped. "How's that? He'll be back next game."
Eaves said the injury happened late in the Wings' 7-3 victory in Dallas.
"I was able to get that last one there," Eaves said. It just kind of flared up on me (Thursday). It is what it is, take care of it and be back as soon as possible."
The injury comes at a bad time for Eaves, who has six of his 11 goals in the last seven games.
To take Eaves' place, the Wings recalled forward Tomas Tatar from Grand Rapids.
Tatar, 20, has a team-high nine goals and 20 assists in 35 games for the Griffins this season after recording 16 goals and 16 assists in 58 games last season.
In order to make room on the roster for Tatar, the Wings placed Dan Cleary on injured reserve. Cleary suffered a broken ankle Dec. 26 against the Minnesota Wild.
