Afghanistan wins World Cup qualification tournament
HARARE, Zimbabwe (AP) Mohammad Nabi smashed three straight sixes to give Afghanistan a seven-wicket victory over West Indies on Sunday in the final of the cricket World Cup qualification tournament with almost 10 overs to spare.
Both teams had already qualified for the 2019 World Cup in England and Wales.
Former world champion West Indies chose to bat and was bowled out for 204 in 46.5 overs, with spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman taking 4-43 in 9.5 overs. Rovman Powell top-scored with 44 off 75 balls.
In reply, Afghanistan eased to 206-3 after 40.4 overs in Harare. Opener Mohammad Shahzad, who was man of the match, top-scored with 84 off 93 balls, including 11 fours and two sixes. Rahmat Shah hit 51 off 78.
Nabi sealed victory with three sixes off the bowling of Chris Gayle.
Afghanistan beat West Indies three times in the same tournament.
