Admirals coach Herbers steps down

The Milwaukee Admirals are again looking for a new head coach.
Just six months after being named head coach, Ian Herbers is leaving the Admirals organization to become the head coach at his alma mater, the University of Alberta in Canada.
Herbers took over as head coach on November 28 when Kirk Muller left to become the head coach of the Carolina Hurricanes.
"We would like to thank Ian for his time with the organization; he stepped up when we lost Kirk Muller early in the season and performed admirably," Nashville Predators assistant general manager and Milwaukee general manager Paul Fenton said. "We wish him success as he returns to his roots.
The search for the next head coach of the Milwaukee Admirals begins immediately. Each of the last six coaches we've hired have moved on to the NHL or University coaching ranks, so we have a solid track record of hiring and cultivating coaches, and know that the Milwaukee position is attractive to coaches."
Under Herbers' leadership, the Admirals went 30-23-2-4, finished second in the AHL’s Midwest Division and appeared in the playoffs for the 10th year in a row.
Prior to serving as head coach, Herbers was an assistant under Muller and spent two seasons in Milwaukee as an assistant to Lane Lambert.
Five former Admirals coaches are currently in the NHL. Muller, Claude Noel (Winnipeg) and Todd Richards (Columbus) are all head coaches, while Peter Horachek and Lambert are assistants with Nashville.
