Georgia Tech ran all over the Maryland Terrapins, totalling 370 rushing yards, against the injury depleted Maryland squad, who were forced to start their fifth-string quarterback, Shawn Petty, who typically plays linebacker on the scout team, due to injury.
--Georgia Tech dominated the opening half, amassing 205 yards while allowing just 61, on their way to a 20-0 halftime lead. Tech went up 27-0 in the third quarter, before Stefon Diggs caught his first of two touchdowns, with the second on the final play of the game.
--Both Tech quarterbacks found the end zone, with backup Vlad Lee scoring two on the ground while Tevin Washington rushed for his 34th career touchdown, one shy of the ACC record for quarterbacks. Petty fumbled twice and was intercepted once, but threw for 115 yards and two scores in his debut.
-- Virginia attacked NC State from the beginning, jumping out to a 14-0 lead before Wolfpack quarterback Mike Glennon was called for intentional grounding in the end zone for a safety in the second quarter. Virginia took a 16-0 advantage into the half.
-- Glennon threw three picks while both Mike Rocco and Phil Sims both threw for touchdowns for the Cavaliers. Virginia running back Kevin Parks ran for 115 yards and a score. Virginia won their first ACC conference game of the season.
-- NC State failed a two-point conversion attempt after Glennon threw a touchdown to Mario Carter in the fourth quarter.
