ACC basketball capsules: Wednesday outlook

Wednesday, Feb. 29

Maryland (16-12, 6-8) at North Carolina (25-4, 12-2)
When:  7 p.m.
Where: Chapel Hill, N.C., Dean Smith Center (21,750)
Fast break: Could this be a trap game? It can, but only if the Terrapins play out of their minds. UNC has a trip to Duke coming up over the weekend but can’t overlook Maryland, perhaps like Duke looked past Wake Forest last night. This might be closer than some UNC fans care for, but the Tar Heels will hit some perimeter shots and better the Terps up front and close strong.
Forecast: UNC, 78-67.

Georgia Tech (10-18, 3-11) at Boston College (8-20, 3-11)
When:  7 p.m.
Where: Chestnut Hill, MA, Conte Forum (8,600)
Fast break: BC is coming off a horrible loss and Tech is coming off a great win, though recent history suggests that has no bearing on how either team will play. Being at home, BC has several edges, and that should be enough.
Forecast: BC, 58-56.

Miami (17-10, 8-6) at N.C. State (18-11, 7-7)
When:  9 p.m.
Where: Raleigh, N.C., RBC Center (19,700)
Fast break: Bigger game for Miami than N.C. State because the Hurricanes are more in the NCAA Tournament picture. But they can’t afford to lose this, even if Reggie Johnson remains out due to an NCAA situation. NCSU must get Scott Wood free, win the boards, and limit Miami’s penetration. That’s a tall task, but it’s certainly doable. Miami needs Kenny Kadji to have a huge game, get to the foul line, and get State’s bigs in foul, trouble.
Forecast: N.C. State, 74-70.

Andrew Jones’ record: 194-48
