A Robot's View: I miss the old Pro Bowl

Let’s face the facts people. The NFL season is over . . . stop take a deep breath, wipe away the tears and we’re back. The season is over even though we hate to admit it. Now is the time everybody watches the updates from spring training and wonders why pitchers and catchers need to report so early? Do they get to leave early? Doesn’t really seem fair. But this blog isn’t about baseball, it’s about football. And I have a bone to pick! I miss the old Pro Bowl! I know that sounds weird for many reasons. 1. Nobody likes the Pro Bowl 2. You’re probably saying, “What’s this ‘old Pro Bowl’? Did they change the game to make it more interesting while I wasn’t watching?” No. “Is it actually competitive now?” No. “Are they allowed to tackle?” No. “Then what is so NEW about this Pro Bowl?” Well maybe if you stopped yelling at me I could answer. I’m just a robot ok! The timing of the Pro Bowl! That’s what I miss! And this is why. Of course no one plays hard in the Pro Bowl! You’re not playing for anything, what pride? Please! They just played months of bone crushing football, they don’t care about pride. The Pro Bowl means nothing. So when you put it after the Super Bowl it’s a perfect transition from FOOTBALL to NO FOOTBALL! You used to have a great season of football, great playoffs and then the the Super Bowl. Then, the next week they would throw a half-hearted game between a bunch of millionaires that just wanted to get home and do nothing. AND THAT WAS PERFECT! You could watch them not care. You had the Super Bowl and then one last taste of football before nothing. Now, with the Pro Bowl before the Super Bowl we leave on this incredible high wanting more! But there isn’t more! There’s Gronk dancing at a night club. Vince Young wishing he could dance at a night club. Offseason arrests, who’s drafting who? What new QB are the Eagles going to bring in? How will they ever play a Super Bowl in New Jersey? That is all we have. And the only thing I’m asking is to be let down early. Is that so much to ask? Just put it back where it was, so at least our disappointment is in the quality of play, not lack of it!
