ST. LOUIS -- If Billikens fans are looking for a sign that Saint Louis basketball is on the rise, they got one Wednesday morning when one of the nation's top-ranked prep juniors announced he's going to SLU.

Carte'Are Gordon, a junior at Webster Groves High School and the No. 9 prospect in ESPN's 2018 national recruiting rankings, told ESPN that he chose the Billikens over Kansas and Missouri, partly because he wants to stay close to home. He also said coach Travis Ford and assistant Corey Tate were strong influences in his decision.

Gordon is the second prominent recruit to join the SLU program since Ford was hired as Jim Crews' successor last spring. Jordan Goodwin, a 6-4 senior at Althoff Catholic High in Belleville, committed to the Billikens' 2017 class in August. Goodwin is ranked 52nd nationally by Scout, 56th by Rivals and 57th by ESPN.
