2nd test: England wags tail for 24-run lead vs Bangladesh

DHAKA, Bangladesh (AP) Chris Woakes and Adil Rashid combined for 99 runs as England was all out for 244 in its first innings, gaining a 24-run lead against Bangladesh in the second test on Saturday.
It was England's highest ninth-wicket partnership in Asia, eclipsing 83 runs by Norman Gifford and Keith Fletcher against India in 1973.
The partnership came when England was struggling at 144-8, in reply to Bangladesh's first innings of 220.
Offspinner Mehedi Hasan broke the stubborn partnership to claim his second six-for in as many matches when he found the edge of Woakes for 46 with the new ball.
Left-arm spinner Taijul Islam then got Steven Finn to wrap up the innings and prompt an early tea, 15 minutes before the scheduled time.
Rashid was unbeaten on 44.
Joe Root fought hard to score 56 as Bangladesh's spinners made regular inroads after England resumed the day on 50-3.
Jonny Bairstow made 24 and combined for a 45-run partnership with Root for the sixth wicket after Mehedi and Taijul Islam took two early wickets in the morning session to reduce England to 69-5.
Mehedi, who ended on 6-82, raised the prospect of quickly wrapping up England's innings before Woakes and Rashid came up with some resistance.
Left-arm spinner Islam complemented Mehedi with 3-65.
