BRISBANE, Australia (AP) Peter Beattie, the chairman of the 2018 Commonwealth Games organizing committee and a former Queensland state premier, is one of two additions to the Australian Rugby League Commission.

Beattie and constitutional lawyer Megan Davis were appointed commissioners by ARLC chairman John Grant on Tuesday, replacing businessmen Graeme Samuel and Jeremy Sutcliffe, who quit in January.

Grant said Davis and Beattie would join the work on the ARLC's agenda, including striking a funding agreement with clubs and finalizing the collective bargaining agreement with the players. The ARLC runs the sport in Australia, including the flagship National Rugby League competition.

Beattie said he was confident he could balance his role at the Commonwealth Games, which will be staged on the Gold Coast, Queensland state, next April, the ARLC and his other business commitments.

''I have a great love of rugby league and I am excited about the prospect of working with the commission to make the game even greater,'' Beattie said.
