2 'Canes, 1 Gator named to College HOF ballot

Miami's Jerome Brown and Vinny Testaverde and Florida's Danny Weurffel were among 77 players named to the College Football Hall of Fame ballot for 2013.

Brown played defensive tackle at Miami from 1983-'86, helping lead the Hurricanes to four consecutive New Year's Day bowl games. He was a unanimous first-team All-American pick in 1986 and finalist for both the Outland and Lombardi trophies.

Brown, who ranks 10th all-time with 21, was drafted ninth overall by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 1987 NFL Draft. He died in an autombile accident in October 1992.

In a long line of Hurricanes QB greats, Testaverde was the first to claim the Heisman Trophy, earning the honor in 1986. In two seasons as starter, he led the Hurricanes to 21-1 regular season record.

Testaverde finished his Hurricanes career with 6,058 yeards and 48 touchdown passes and was drafted No. 1 overall by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 1987 NFL Draft.

Wuerffel led Florida to four consecutive SEC titles (1993-96) and the national title in 1996, when he was also named Heisman Trophy after throwing for 3,625 yards and 39 touchdowns.

He finished his Florida career with 10,875 yards and 114 touchdown passes. Upon graduatoin he held 48 records (4 NCAA, 12 SEC and 32 Florida).

The College Football Hall of Fame Class of 2013 will be announced on May 7.
