110 Sports Podcast: Dan Majerle

Dan Majerle, newly introduced as Grand Canyon's basketball coach, joins Matt this week to talk about his new job. He also discusses the school's plan to jump to Division I, his style of play and how learning all the NCAA rules is going. Plus, he talks about the Phoenix Suns and his former teammate and the Mayor of Sacramento, Kevin Johnson.
Among his observations:
On Jerry Colangelo adding comfort to the hiring process: "Yeah, that definitely helped because I've known him since '88. I know that everything he does, he does it correctly, first class, and we'll have a great chance to succeed."
On replicating the success of Florida Gulf Coast: "That's everybody's goal. It took them six years, and it's going to be a tough process. Anytime you jump from Division II to Division I, you have that four-year wait where you can't play in the Tournament, so that's kind of a hurdle we have to jump over, but I think we can have a picture of building this slowly and being competitive."
On the video of former Rutgers coach Mike Rice: "Definitely there's no place in college basketball for anything like that, it was shocking to me and way over the line."
