Andrew Bash has been a one-man wrecking crew for Palm Desert High this postseason. In the playoff opener versus Palmdale, Bash got the ball and was only expected to pitch four innings to preserve his arm. However, that decision became tougher once Bash was in the middle of a no-hitter.

He completed the no-hit bid for the first no-hitter of his career. It was also the first no-no in Palm Desert postseason history. Bash added had a two-homer game in the next round and in the semifinals, hit a two-run go-ahead home run in a win over Santa Monica to propel Palm Desert (26-6) into the CIF Southern Section Division III championship against Bishop Amat (20-11).

The game will air live from Dodger Stadium at 2 p.m. on FOXSportsWest.com's Prep Zone

If you hear someone calling out "Gumby" they're probably looking for Bash.

"I had (the nickname) ever since I was a little kid," he said. "My dad started calling me it because I was a catcher and really flexible."

Hobbies

In his spare time, the Palm Desert junior likes to go dirt bike riding. He's been riding since he was eight years old. While riding, though, he keeps it simple, abstaining from intricate tricks.

"Just basic jumps," he said, "I don't get into a lot of that. I don't want to get hurt. It (won't) be good for baseball."

Late night snack

If it's late, Bash is normally reaching for a Tiger milk bar and a protein shake. However, he cheats sometimes.

For that, Bash would select his teammate, Palm Desert shortstop Travis Moniot, who he's known since he was 10-years-old.

"He just knows me," Bash said of his teammate. "I've known him forever."

Best sports memory

As a 12-year-old, Bash played in Cooperstown and hit his first home run over the fence in the shadows of the Baseball Hall of Fame.

"I hit it over the left field scoreboard," Bash recalls.

No. 8

Bash wears No. 8 because of former Baltimore Orioles great Cal Ripken Jr.

"I have posters in my room of him and that's the number I've been my whole life," he said.
