Troy Dumais gets emotional in final dive after 5th Olympic bid falls short

The U.S. diving trials crowd knew that veteran springboarder Troy Dumais failed to qualify for a record fifth Olympics when he stepped onto the platform for his last dive on Saturday.
So the crowd gave the 36-year-old a long, sustained round of applause, and Dumais became emotional prior to what may be the final dive of his competitive career.
Still, the Olympic bronze medalist was able to regain his composure to finish out his event, scoring a 71.4 on the dive and finishing fourth overall.

The United States' two men's 3-meter spots went to Kristian Ipsen, Dumais' synchornized springboard diving partner, and Michael Hixon. Jessica Parratto and Katrina Young made the U.S. team in the women's 10-meter.
Dumais remained gracious in his exit.
"What a way to go out, huh? A standing ovation in front of my family," he said through reddened eyes, via the Associated Press. "It's a dive I'll always relive in my mind — standing on the board, seeing the people. It was actually hard to do."
