MERIBEL, France (AP) Switzerland's combined times gave it the edge over Sweden on Friday in the team event at the World Cup finals.
With each team winning two slalom races in the final, Switzerland ended up on top by .09 seconds when the overall times were added up.
Wendy Holdener had put the Swiss ahead when she beat Sara Hector by .62 seconds. But the Swedes took a 2-1 lead after Mattias Hargin beat Justin Murisier by .10 and Anna Swenn-Larsson edged Charlotte Chable by .16.
In the final race, Swiss skier Reto Schmidiger beat Anton Lahdenperae by .78 to force the tiebreaker.
In the semifinals, Sweden beat Austria while Switzerland defeated Italy. Austria beat Italy 3-1 for third place.
The World Cup finals continue Saturday and Sunday with slalom and giant slalom races.
Both the men's and women's overall World Cup titles have yet to be decided. Technical specialist Marcel Hirscher of Austria leads the men's standings ahead of Kjetil Jansrud of Norway, and defending champion Anna Fenninger of Austria leads former champion Tina Maze in the women's standings.
