Sochi champ Joss Christensen skis war-torn ruins of 1984 Olympics host Sarajevo


A little more than a month after Joss Christensen won a gold medal at the Sochi Winter Games, the 22-year-old Utah slopestyle skier had the opportunity to visit a place he'd never been -- somewhere his sport couldn't take him -- and took a trip to Sarajevo.
The Eastern European city hosted the 1984 Winter Games seven years before Christensen was born. But many of the Olympic event venues have since been decimated by the Bosnian war and abandoned in the 30 years since.
Teton Gravity Research contrasted footage from the 1984 Winter Olympics with Christensen and fellow skiers Chris Laker and Karl Fostvelt doing tricks on the now-abandoned ski jumping and bobsledding venues, as well as parts of the city itself.
The result blends modern sports artistry and heartbreaking ruin. Take a look:
