Maybe the Russians want to get their Olympic glitches out of the way early.
While a torch bearer was running in Moscow Sunday, the Olympic flame went out and needed to be relighted.
Shavarsh Karapetyan, 60, a Russian champion swimmer, was going through a long passageway at the Kremlin, which apparently created a wind strong enough to snuff out the flame. But a man presumed to be part of President Vladimir Putin’s security detail brought out a lighter to get the torch going again.
Putin had lit a cauldron in Red Square before the relay, which will spend three days in Moscow before heading out across Russia, on its way to the opening ceremony for the Winter Games at Sochi on Feb. 7.
