BEAVER CREEK , Colorado (AP) Olympic downhill champion Dominique Gisin is aiming for an unlikely return from injury at the Alpine skiing world championships.
The Swiss ski federation says Gisin is heading to Vail-Beaver Creek, Colorado, after returning to skiing at home ahead of schedule Thursday.
Gisin hopes to compete in the giant slalom next Thursday.
On Jan. 19, Gisin cracked the tibia bone in her right knee when crashing at Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy. She was expected to be sidelined for up to six weeks.

Gisin will miss Friday's women's downhill, the event in which she tied for victory at the 2014 Olympics with Tina Maze of Slovenia.
Gisin and Maze holding hands on the podium created one of the signature images of the Sochi Games.
