Noelle Pikus-Pace wins gold in World Cup skeleton, sets track record
Noelle Pikus-Pace of the United States set a pair of track records Friday on the way to winning the gold medal at the second World Cup skeleton race of the season.
Pikus-Pace was disqualified from what was originally announced as a win in the season-opening race last weekend after British officials protested about a piece of tape on the handle of her sled. She left no doubt Friday, topping Britain's Elizabeth Yarnold by 0.68 seconds for the victory.
Pikus-Pace's two-run time was 1:39.54. Yarnold finished in 1:40.22 and Canada's Sarah Reid took third in 1:40.60.
Earlier Friday, Russia's Alexander Tretyakov was a surprise winner in the men's skeleton race, topping Latvia's Martins Dukurs by 0.12 seconds. Matt Antoine of the U.S. was third, 0.14 seconds back.
