Bob Costas has battled valiantly, but the Olympic anchor is handing off to Today's Matt Lauer as he deals with an infection that has spread to both eyes.

Costas called Lauer on the show Tuesday morning to let him know, according to USA Today.

Asked by Lauer how he was holding up, Costas said "Well, even worse than when you saw me this morning, Sochi time. So, reluctantly, I was trying to throw a complete game here, but I think we're going to have to go to the bullpen. I don't know if you'€™re aware of this or not, but you're Mariano Rivera, at least tonight."

"So, I'm going to step in for you tonight, the master of Olympic primetime?," Lauer responded.

"I believe that's it. Let's hope it's only tonight because right now I'm walking around and might as well be playing Marco Polo. I have no idea where I am," said Costas.

Costas' eye infection has been a hot topic over the last several days, with viewers asking why he was wearing a strange pair of glasses during the initial telecast. It's only gotten worse as the days have dragged on.

This probably didn't help either.

All jokes aside, get better Bob.
