Some Mexican athletes competing in next month's Pan American Games are shying away from eating beef and tacos because they fear it may contain a banned anabolic agent.
Bernardo de la Garza, director of a national agency that handles sport and culture, recently asked athletes not to eat beef.
Five Mexican soccer players tested positive for clenbuterol this year. The Mexico soccer federation cleared the five, saying contaminated meat caused the positive tests.
The World Anti-Doping Agency last month challenged the Mexico federation's decision and is appealing the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Switzerland.

Some 6,800 athletes are expected to compete in the Pan American Games, which start Oct. 14 in Guadalajara, Mexico.
