NASSAU, Bahamas (AP) Freddy Loof and Anders Ekstrom of Sweden had finishes of first, second and first Friday to win the qualifiers and advance directly to the semfinals of the Star Sailors League Final.
Friday's big day moved the Swedes into first ahead of defending champion Robert Scheidt and Bruno Prada of Brazil and Mark Mendelblatt and Brian Fatih of the United States.
Loof won the gold medal in the Star class at the London Olympics.
Scheidt-Prada, Mendelblatt-Fatih and eight other crews will compete in the single-race quarterfinal. The top six will join Loof for a single race semifinal before the top four sail a sudden-death final race.
