VAL D'ISERE, France (AP) American Lindsey Vonn was third quickest in a downhill training run Wednesday at Val d'Isere, one of her favorite resorts.

Larisa Yurkiw of Canada was quickest in 1 minute, 47.79 seconds, with Nicole Schmidhofer of Austria. 10 behind and Vonn trailing by .21.

Vonn has made an outstanding start to the season by winning four races so far: two downhill and a Super-G at Lake Louise in Canada and a giant slalom last weekend in the Swedish resort of Are, extending her record to 71 race wins.

She is chasing a fifth overall World Cup title and first since 2012 - before her career was threatened by serious knee injuries.

There is downhill training on Thursday followed by a super-combined race on Friday - a downhill and slalom - and a downhill on Saturday.

The 31-year-old Vonn's brilliant career started to gather momentum when she won a downhill in Val d'Isere 10 years ago for her third race win.

She won further downhill races here at the French Alpine resort in 2006 and 2010, and clinched two super-combi wins in 2009 and 2010.
