Jorgensen wins triathlon final, season title

EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) Olympian Gwen Jorgensen won the ITU World Triathlon Series Grand Final on Saturday at Hawrelak Park to take the season title.
Jorgensen, from St. Paul, Minnesota, became the first woman to win five WTS events in a season and pushed her career total to eight. She finished the 1,500-meter swim, 43.2-kilometer bike ride and 10-kilometer run course in 2 hours, 5 seconds.
''I don't think it's sunk in yet, that I'm world champion,'' Jorgensen said. ''This race was interesting because going in I knew I only had to get top 16 to be world champion. I really wanted to win it on this day, and it's been the sole focus all year.''
New Zealand's Andrea Hewitt was second in 2:00:21, and compatriot Nicky Samuels followed in 2:00:31. Sarah Groff of Hanover, New Hampshire, was third in 2:01:20, and finished second in the season standings.
