KRASNAYA POLYANA, Russia (AP) Canadian downhiller Jan Hudec says the bulging disk in his back is getting better ''every single day'' and he's no longer in agonizing pain.

Three weeks ago, Hudec was unsure if he would be able to race at the Sochi Olympics after aggravating his back in a simple jumping exercise. Day by day, though, the pain has lessened. He was on the mountain Wednesday, taking some easy runs on a hill adjacent to the downhill track. His back didn't really bother him, the 32-year-old Hudec said.

It took plenty of physical therapy to get his back to this point, not to mention some nerve blockers.

Hudec is a strong medal contender, especially in the super-G, where he's currently seventh in the World Cup standings.
