KRANJSKA GORA, Slovenia (AP) Marcel Hirscher led a World Cup giant slalom after the opening run Saturday, positioning himself to wrap up the discipline title with a race to spare.

The Austrian, who holds a 91-point lead in the GS standings, will secure the title if he wins the race or scores at least 10 points more than his sole rival, Alexis Pinturault of France.

On a course set by his own coach, Hirscher was 0.41 seconds faster than Pinturault. Felix Neureuther of Germany was 0.65 back in third.

The Frenchman beat Hirscher to win a GS on the same course Friday.

Hirscher could also extend his lead in the overall standings past 300 points, which would all but secure the Austrian his fifth straight overall title.
