TRONDHEIM, Norway (AP) Joergen Graabak of Norway overcame a deficit of more than a minute to win the Trondheim leg of the Nordic Combined World Cup on Tuesday.
Graabak started the 10-kilometer cross-country race in eighth after the ski jumping round but along with Eric Frenzel of Germany chased down Jarl Magnus Riiber of Norway. Graabak then powered ahead on the last lap to seal the victory ahead of Frenzel.
For the second competition in a row, the 18-year-old Riiber produced the best jump. But unlike in Oslo in the last round, Riiber wasn't able to hang on for the win, finishing third.
Riiber started the cross-country 16 seconds ahead of the field and was in the lead until the 8K mark when Frenzel, who had started seventh, and Graabak passed him.
The win, Graabak's second ever in the World Cup, came on his home course.
''It was a good day for me,'' he said. ''I saw that Eric was really strong and just heard from the coaches that we were gradually eating up the advantage for Jarl so I just had to stay on his back and be strong and finish.''
After 15 rounds, Frenzel leads the overall standings with 811 points. Akito Watabe of Japan is 127 behind in second. Fabian Riessle of Germany is third with 643.
The competition continues in Trondheim on Wednesday.
