Fourcade, Dahlmeier win biathlon World Cup pursuits
HOCHFILZEN, Austria (AP) Olympic champion Martin Fourcade overcame two penalty loops to win a men's biathlon World Cup pursuit on Saturday, hours after Laura Dahlmeier led a German 1-2 finish in the women's race.
The fastest skier of the field, Fourcade made up for two mistakes in the second stage of prone shooting.
The Frenchman finished the 12.5-kilometer event in 31 minutes, 19.9 seconds to lead Simon Schempp by 8.9. The German, who had started first after winning Friday's sprint, missed one target.
Anton Shipulin of Russia missed twice and came 19.1 seconds behind in third.
Fourcade stretched his lead in the overall standings. The defending champion has 254 points, 53 clear of Ole Einar Bjoerndalen of Norway.
Earlier, Dahlmeier won the women's 10K race.
The world championship silver medalist took the lead after the third round of shooting and held on to it despite missing a target in her final shooting.
Dahlmeier finished in 28 minutes, 23.3 seconds for her third career win.
Maren Hammerschmidt missed twice and came 13.3 behind in second, while overall World Cup leader Gabriela Soukalova of Czech Republic also missed one target in the last shooting and trailed by 18.5 in third.
Franziska Hildebrand, who led a German sweep of the podium in the 7.5K sprint on Friday, finished 25.0 off the lead in fourth.
In the overall standings, Soukalova has 222 points to lead Hildebrand by 16.
The men's and women's relays on the Pillerseetal course are scheduled for Sunday.
