The nine-month-old son of former Australian Olympic swimmer Brooke Hanson has died from chronic lung disease after being born prematurely to Hanson and her husband Jared Clarke.
Hanson told Sydney's Sunday Telegraph that Jack Hanson Clarke died last Tuesday at Monash Medical Centre in Melbourne. He was born 12 weeks prematurely on July 8, 2011 and weighed just 663 grams (1 pound, 7 ounces).
The 34-year-old Hanson said "our lovely angel, taken away too soon ... we kept hope for 271 days."
Hanson won a 4x100-meter medley relay gold medal at Athens in 2004 and took the silver in the 100-meter breaststroke at the same Olympics. She retired in 2007.
