British IOC Vice President Craig Reedie will lead the panel assessing the three bids for the 2020 Summer Olympics - Madrid, Tokyo and Istanbul.

Reedie was a central figure in London's role as host of the 2012 Games. He was elevated to an IOC vice president in July.

IOC President Jacques Rogge says Reedie ''knows as well as anybody what it takes to host a sustainable, well-organized and ultimately successful Olympic Games.''

The commission will visit the three bid cities next year - Tokyo from March 4-7, Madrid from March 18-21 and Istanbul from March 24-27.

The panel will prepare a report on the bids before a meeting in July 2013. The full IOC will vote on the host in September 2013 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
