Amnesty asks London organizers to admit mistake

Amnesty International has called on London Olympic organizers to apologize for having Dow Chemical provide the fabric wrap for the main stadium.

Amnesty says it ''seems absurd'' that the London organizing committee chose Dow despite its links to a company accused of responsibility in a deadly 1984 gas leak in India.

Amnesty says ''it's time they admit their mistake and apologize.''

Dow bought Union Carbide 16 years after the disaster in Bhopal, India, which killed an estimated 15,000 people. It says it's not responsible for the catastrophe.

London and International Olympic Committee officials couldn't immediately be reached for comment Wednesday but have said Dow was not to blame for the Bhopal disaster.
