BARCELONA, Spain (AP) The 2019 world championships for freestyle skiing and snowboarding will be held in Utah.

The International Ski Federation (FIS) awarded the championships Thursday to three resorts in Park City - Canyons Resort, Deer Valley Resort and Park City Mountain Resort.

There will be at least 12 competitions over the 10-day stretch in February 2019, including snowboard and skiing slopestyle, which both made their Olympic debuts in Sochi earlier this year.

FIS has long had difficulty attracting all the top athletes to its biggest events because most major events on the action-sports calendar are sanctioned by other bodies. The U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association has made arrangements to work closely with the Association of Freeskiing Professionals (AFP) and TTR World Snowboard Tour to bring more athletes to Utah in 2019.
