MotoGP’s 800th premiere class race took place last Sunday at the 2014 Grand Prix of Aragon.

The milestone race did not disappoint with fantastic racing and unpredictable storylines unfolding throughout the entire duration of the event. However, what the race may best be remembered for was the spectacular crashes that took out many of the front-runners.

All of the riders shown in the following crashes escaped without injury.

First to fall was Ducati rider Andrea Iannone, who was showing signs of promise on his new Ducati 14.2 motorcycle, running in second place behind points leader Marc Marquez early on during the race.

However, an early mistake led to disastrous consequences as Iannone had to take to the grass in order to save his motorcycle. He then lost control while sliding through the wet grass, leading to this unbelievable wreck that destroyed his promising new 14.2 Ducati.

Two laps later, nine-time World Champion Valentino Rossi also fell out of the lead pack while attempting a pass on Dani Pedrosa for third. Rossi was knocked unconscious during the crash and taken to a local hospital but ultimately was uninjured and later returned to the paddock, reporting that he was ‘fine’ and that ‘everything is OK.’

Rain began to fall later on during the race leading many riders to pit to change onto their bikes set up for the wet-weather conditions. The leading Repsol Honda riders of Marc Marquez and Dani Pedrosa stayed out however, leading to anxiety as the paddock and fans waited to see whether they could continue to navigate the wet course on their dry-setup bikes. Pedrosa was the first to fall …

… followed by his teammate Marquez, which ultimately gave Jorge Lorenzo the victory.
