Watch a Tesla Model S drag race a Boeing 737 aircraft

Before we consider the simple question of which is faster - a Tesla Model S P90D or a Qantas Boeing 737-800 aircraft - let’s consider an even simpler question…
Which burns less gas?
Although you’d think that such a drag race would look bad on Qantas for polluting the environment more than the Tesla, it was actually Qantas who uploaded the video and put the test together. In doing so, Qantas is hoping to raise awareness for its Future Planet Program.
The two companies are collaborating in hopes to drive innovation and improve technology in the transportation industry. Their customers will also benefit with:
- Exclusive events for Qantas frequent flyers, enabling them to experience new Tesla vehicles and technology
- Qantas Club membership for Tesla Model S owners
- Tesla High Power Wall Connectors at Qantas Valet facilities in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide allowing Model S owners to charge whilst they travel
The race took place at Avalon Airport in Australia. The early advantage went to the Tesla Model S. In Ludicrous Mode, the car is able to go from 0-60 mph in 2.8 seconds before quickly reaching its top speed of 155 mph.
However, that’s when the airplane slowly began making inroads, closing in on the Tesla before it finally takes off at around 160 mph. The sky is then the plane’s playground, where it can reach speeds of up to 528 mph.
