The 1979 French Grand Prix, held on July 1 in Dijon-Prenois, will forever be remembered for the hard-fought battle in the closing laps between Ferrari driver Gilles Villeneuve and Renault driver Rene Arnoux.
Arnoux’ teammate Jean-Pierre Jabouille may have won the race yet, if it wasn't for the fact that the French crowd was ecstatic to see one of its cars win, nobody really seemed to care - the battle for second was where it was at.
