Ferrari has confirmed that highly rated technician James Allison will join its team as chassis technical director from Sep. 1.

Allison left Lotus in May, sparking speculation about a possible return to Ferrari.

Ferrari announced the news in a statement Monday, adding that Pat Fry will take on the new position of director of engineering. Both will report to team principal Stefano Domenicali.

Allison spent five years at Ferrari during its dominant spell at the beginning of the millennium before leaving for Renault in 2005.
