Three riders killed in separate crashes at 2014 Open Trophy at Chimay
Julien Paquet, Thilo Hafele and Vick de Cooremeter all lost their lives in separate motorcycle racing incidents during the 2014 Open Trophy held at the Circuit of Chimay in Belgium last weekend.
The Radio Television Belge Francophone (RTBF) reports that 27-year old Frenchman Julien Paquet was killed in a fatal accident on Saturday during Supersport qualifying.
Belgian rider Vick de Cooremeter crashed on Saturday during practice, reports Mundomotero.com, and succumbed to his injuries while in hospital several hours later. De Cooremeter had been recognized as one of the strongest "newcomers" during the 2014 Isle of Man TT.
German rider Thilo Hafele also crashed during a Supersport practice session and passed away in hospital as a result of his injuries.
After the incidents, the organizers cancelled many of the remaining events for the rest of the weekend.
Alain Doncq, the Captain of Organization, informed the RTBF that in the previous four runnings of the event, there had been no major incidents.
Todocircuito.com also reports the loss of 18-year-old Erick Yahi Sanchez Macias and motorcycle rider Josef Strassnayr, who were both killed in motorcycle racing incidents in Mexico and Austria respectively last weekend.
