Supercross: Roczen takes narrow win over Dungey in Arlington

Ken Roczen took the 450SX win Saturday night at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas after a close battle with Ryan Dungey.

Although Dungey has been the rider to beat in the 2016 season, Roczen has now won two out of the last three 450SX Main Events. Additionally, the winner of the North Texas round has gone on to win the championship in three out of the past four seasons.

Ken Roczen triumphed in his heat race over Dungey and took the holeshot at the start of the Main. Dungey led at the end of the opening lap but Roczen took it back on Lap 2. The interval between the two riders was never more than two seconds, but a mistake in the whoops with two laps to go set Dungey back and Roczen went on to take the victory.

Ten seconds behind the pair, Jason Anderson passed Cole Seely for the final podium spot in the closing laps after taking the spoils in his heat race earlier in the evening.

Meanwhile, in the 250SX class, Cooper Webb ended a three-race-long losing streak to retake the points lead with just one round to go in the 2016 250SX West Championship.

However, it was far from easy for the reigning champion, as he got hung up on his gate at the start of his heat race and so did not get a desired gate position for the Main. Yet Webb showed why he was champion by emerging from the first turn in third place. He then got second when Joey Savatgy, sporting the red plate, went down from second, and then passed holeshot winner Christian Craig for the lead and the win with four laps to go. Zach Osborne rounded out the podium in third.

The 250SX West riders will now get to relax until their final race of the season in April. The 450SX and 250SX East classes will be back in action next weekend at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.
