Sudden downpour leaves mud, hail on racetrack at Nurburgring 24

The wonderful thing about 24-hour long races is you can expect to see a bit of everything.
Especially when you’re at the Nurburgring.
As the field came to complete the first hour of the event at the combined 16-mile configuration on Saturday, a sudden downpour at the far end of the track led to cars skating off of the racetrack and into the barriers, bringing out the red flag. Meanwhile, it was practically dry at the starting line.
As the cars all pulled to a halt on track, the rains began to wash mud onto the course. Then, the rain turned into hail.
All in all, it created a very impressive piece of artwork from a bird’s-eye view:
