One spectator died after the No. 23 Nissan crashed into a spectator area at the season opening German VLN endurance race at the Nurburgring Saturday morning.
Jann Mardenborough was able to escape uninjured after his No. 23 Nissan GT-R went off the track, over the security perimeter, and landed on its back in the spectator area.
One spectator was killed, while Mardenborough and two injured spectators were taken to a hospital but have since been released.
The race was red-flagged and never restarted after emergency vehicles took to the track.
Nissan released a statement stating that the team is cooperating with the race organizers to conduct "an immediate and thorough investigation of this incident."

Video of the crash shows the car going airborne in the 'Flugplatz' section.
