Korean Grand Prix organizers say motorsport's world governing body FIA has approved South Korea's newly completed race track less than two weeks ahead of the country's Formula One debut.
FIA technical delegate Charlie Whiting expressed satisfaction after inspecting the Yeongam circuit, clearing the way for the race to go ahead on Oct. 24, Korea Auto Valley Operation said in a statement.
F1 cars are scheduled to first take to the track for practice on Oct. 22.
The final layer of the Yeongam circuit was completed last week, several months behind schedule due to bad weather, according to KAVO. Yeongam is located about 236 miles southwest of Seoul.
The approval comes two weeks after Formula One chief Bernie Ecclestone expressed concerns over whether the track would pass inspection.
