Rio Haryanto is to stay with Manor Racing for this weekend’s Germany GP, after a last minute agreement with his team.

As previously reported the Indonesian’s deal was only for the first 11 races of the season, due to commercial considerations.

He was thus never guaranteed a start at Hockenheim, although logic suggested that he would be allowed an extra race prior to the summer break, given the time constraints and the logistical issues of bringing in a new driver at short notice.

The current arrangement is understood to be just for Hockenheim. In effect Haryanto’s management and the team now have the summer break to come up with a longer term solution for the Belgian GP and beyond. He has thus far been unable to raise extra sponsorship, despite his government trying to encourage local business to back him.

There remains a chance that an alternative driver will be used from Spa onwards, with Alex Rossi, Will Stevens and Stoffel Vandoorne among the candidates.
