Pastor Maldonado has had a miserable Formula One season driving for Lotus in 2014.

Perhaps he should start rethinking his choice of having the No. 13 on his car.

During 2014, Maldonado has been involved in numerous racing incidents during practice, qualifying and race sessions, the most memorable of which was when he clipped Esteban Gutierrez's Sauber during the Bahrain GP, causing the Mexican's car to turn completely over.

Fortunately, both drivers emerged unharmed.

Maldonado, who has a Formula One victory to his name in the 2012 Spanish Grand Prix, has came under a lot of scrutiny from Formula One fans this season, due to his tendency to become involved in incidents and the fact that he receives a lot of financial backing from his home country of Venezuela.

This unforced error, which destroyed his Lotus F1 car Friday morning, has done nothing but help rekindle those criticisms.

That aside, the 29-year-old remains optimistic about the future of his career and the team's performance, having signed a contract with the team to continue racing in 2015.
