Nico Prost has become the fifth driver in as many races to call himself a Formula E race winner.
Jean-Eric Vergne led the field away from pole for the first of 39 laps on the streets of Miami, despite a slight tap for Prost into the first corner.
Sam Bird worked his way up into the top position and took the lead with a textbook pass on Vergne on Lap 19.
However, his lead was short-lived as his Virgin Racing car ran out of power on Lap 20, and he fell back to ninth after his stops.
Meanwhile, Vergne spent a little too long in the pits, and lost ground during the cycle, reemerging in fourth and eventually retiring from the race.
After stops, Daniel Abt, Nico Prost and points leader Lucas di Grassi held the top three positions.
Scott Speed, the only American in the field, then broke his way onto the podium with a pass on Di Grassi. Daniel Abt found himself unable to hold on to the top spot, with Nico Prost and Scott Speed passing him within a couple of turns of each other.
"It was a really good race," said Prost. "I tried a different strategy. In the beginning, I saw that I was quite fast but I could not overtake so I thought I'd try to get by the leader with this strategy. It turned out to be quite difficult because I was really on the edge of my energy so I had to make the most of my pit stop.
"Daniel [Abt] and I got side-by-side but I knew he had to do one more lap. I was still saving energy. Everything was under control but I was only focusing on him and suddenly I saw Scott [Speed] come back and I said. Daniel was running out of energy and I was able to overtake him. In the end it was OK."
Prost led Speed home to the finish for the first Safety-Car-free ePrix in Formula E history.
