MotoGP speed record among Iannone's achievements in sophomore season
One of the riders to have impressed this season in the MotoGP World Championship is Andrea Iannone, the Italian Pramac Racing star.
Iannone is enjoying his sophomore premier class campaign and that clearly shows in his results with the Ducati equipped rider having already amassed more points in nine races this year than he managed in the whole of his rookie season in 2013.
With his 25th birthday approaching early in August, Iannone has shown increasing maturity in 2014, in addition to notable outright speed.
Consistent top 10 finishes, a front row qualifying slot at Mugello and a new top speed record for MotoGP - also set at his home round in Italy - have all seen Iannone impress the paddock.
On his step forward this year and an ongoing quest for a premier class podium, he stated at the World Ducati Week 2014 event, “I’m very happy because I’ve improved on things from last season and that’s very important for me as it was my objective. It won’t be easy because the podium is very hard to reach in MotoGP, the riders are strong and the four factory bikes of Honda and Yamaha have very good performance. But my team and I are working for that and I hope in the future it’s possible.”
Regarding that new outright top speed record for a MotoGP machine of 349.6kph (217.2mph) set on the straight at Mugello, Iannone added, “It was fantastic, it was a great sensation but it wasn’t easy because controlling the bike is hard! But this year in Mugello my bike was very fast because Ducati gave me a new engine. So I was really happy with that.”
