John Force keeps Western Swing sweep hopes alive with win in Sonoma

John Force kept his Western Swing sweep hopes alive with a win at Sonoma Raceway on Sunday in the Toyota NHRA Sonoma Nationals.
His 3.948 ET defeated Ron Capps in a race that pitted two living legends of the sport against each other. John made his way into the final after squaring off against his daughter Courtney in the semis. In the first round, John Force took an easy win when Alexis DeJoria's car turned left early on down the strip and made hard contact with the wall. While she walked away, she was transported to a nearby hospital for further evaluation.
In Top Fuel, J.R. Todd took his first win of the season after defeating Richie Crampton in the final. Both drivers were looking for their first wins of the 2016 season, but Todd took home the win with a 3.745 ET, much to the delight of his Kalitta Motorsports team. Todd defeated Doug Kalitta, Antron Brown and Clay Millican en route to the final.
In Pro Stock, there were several surprises, with Jason Line being eliminated and Erica Enders-Stevens failing to make the start line in the first round. Chris McGaha was eliminated early on too as, while his opponent Matt Hartford jumped the light in Round 2, McGaha then crossed the center line. However, as usual, it was an all-KB Racing final, although this time it was Bo Butner that Greg Anderson had to defeat for his seventh win of the season and 85th of his career.
In Pro Stock Motorcycle, LE Tonglet got his first win in five years after defeating Andrew Hines in the final. Tonglet had defeated the No. 1 qualified Eddie Krawiec in the semis while Hines had made it through after Hector Arana Jr. red-lighted. This is the first win for Suzuki in 2016.
The stars of NHRA will be back in action next weekend for the NHRA Northwest Nationals.
