Ryan Hunter-Reay will get back behind the wheel of a sports car at the 2016 Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona in January, it was announced Monday.

The 54th running of the event, being held from Jan. 30-31, will serve as the season-opener for the 2016 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

Hunter-Reay, 34, was behind the wheel of the No. 7 Starworks Motorsport entry in the 2015 running of the event, but the car was unable to make it to the finish.

This year, Hunter-Reay will share driving duties with Ryan Dalziel and Marc Goossens behind the wheel of the No. 90 Visit Florida Racing entry, which finished third at Daytona in 2015.

Hunter-Reay will also team with Dalziel and Goossens at the 2016 12 Hours of Sebring and the 2016 Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta. He will sub for Dalziel at the 2016 Long Beach Grand Prix, as Dalziel will be in Silverstone for the FIA World Endurance Championship season-opener.

"This is an incredible opportunity to join Visit Florida Racing at the top of their game with such an outstanding driver lineup in Marc and Ryan,” said Hunter-Reay. “I believe we have a strong shot at winning the big endurance races and I’m also looking forward to the double duty challenge at Long Beach, which is one my favorite race tracks."

Hunter-Reay, Dalziel and Goossens will all be at the Roar Before the 24 test at Daytona from Jan. 8-10.
