Have your say: Should have Laurens Vanthoor been allowed to keep his Macau GP win?

Laurens Vanthoor won Sunday’s FIA GT World Cup race at the Macau GP, but not without controversy.

Vanthoor had been leading at the completion on Lap 4, but was passed by Earl Bamber on Lap 5. Soon after the pass, Vanthoor wrecked out of the race, in a crash that turned his Audi upside-down. Vanthoor was OK, but the race was red-flagged and not restarted.

Via the rulebook, the finishing order was based on the classification at the end of Lap 4. With Vanthoor leading at the completion of Lap 4, he was awarded the win as the organizers decided not to exclude him from the results. Often in other series, the driver who brings out the red flag does not maintain their position. Meanwhile, Bamber had been carrying a five-second time penalty for blocking at the race start, and so Kevin Estre was promoted to second position.
