Hamilton fastest at 1st Hungarian GP practice, Rosberg next

BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) Lewis Hamilton had the fastest lap at the first practice session for the Hungarian Grand Prix, followed by Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg.

Driving on the repaved Hungaroring with supersoft tires, Hamilton's time of 1 minute, 21.347 seconds on Friday was nearly four seconds faster than the world champion's first practice in 2015 and almost 0.7 seconds ahead of his 2015 qualifying pace, which gained him pole position.

Rosberg, who has extended his Mercedes contract through 2018, was 0.237 seconds behind Hamilton.

The pacesetters were followed by Ferrari duo Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen, more than 1.6 seconds off Hamilton's pace. Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen of Red Bull, on soft tires, came next.

Wet patches after overnight rainfall made for a cautious start and several spins but no serious incidents.
