Bernie Ecclestone has long suggested that F1 could return to Las Vegas for the first time since 1982, and on Friday he gave a strong hint that plans are already well advanced.

He recently hinted that a contract already existed, and while on Friday he denied that was the case, he made it clear that discussions are in hand.

When asked if it was definitely happening he said: “No,” then added: “I'm going to be talking to them in another 10 minutes. It's possible that there could be an event there. They're going to have a Formula E [race] anyway.”

Regarding the time scale he said: “A couple of years I suppose. We'll keep Austin and have another race.”
